The NRA, NRA-ILA, and FNRA: All are important, but there IS a difference.

Have you ever heard someone get wrapped around the axle about the NRA? Sounds something like “Those @#$%’s are always trying to get in my pocket. You’d best steer clear of them or else be pummeled with junk mail until your dying days.” Although there is a resolution to that, and I’ll mention in a bit, I have to laugh because I know right where that person is coming from. The NRA’s fundraiser’s can be quite persistent and down right annoying. The intriguing thing to me is that most of these folks aren’t aware of where the mail is actually coming from. The NRA is a HUGE organization, agree? I’m almost 100% positive that the “junk mail” that you receive is from the NRA-ILA and I want to distinguish between them and the NRA proper. To simplify, the NRA was founded to promote education, training, and marksmanship, full history here; and later it established a division solely for the purpose of lobbying our lawmakers to ensure our 2nd amendment rights among other issues under the U.S. Constitution, full history here. I would also like to touch on one other group that also has it’s place at the headmasters table and that is the Friends of the NRA. FNRA are basically local organizations who raise funds that directly support local, state and national programs, the majority of which stays local. Some of the recipients of funds in Alaska include the High School Shooting Programs, Shooting Ranges, and individual shooters competing in state and national championships to name a few. As you can see there is a LOT to support and many individuals holding their hands out on a regular basis, it’s just up to you where you want your hard earned dollars to be channeled.
